Resources to cultural issues in the management of cultural tourism in the Algarve

This article presents a study carried out in the Algarve, Portugal, in order to present the main regional cultural resources and simultaneously to suggest new cultural touristic products.

In methodological terms, the paper is based on a case study related to the Algarve region, and two questionnaire survey addressed respectively to municipalities and companies in the cultural and creative sector as well as to cultural associations in the region.

The results point out 1500 cultural resources and their respective attractiveness. Simultaneously they suggest six core themes for cultural tourism in the Algarve, namely Sagres: Myth and History, Heritage Islamo-Christian, Historic Centres, Traditions and Expressions Creative, Cultural Sea, Mediterranean Diet.
